The museum is the only one in Western US that revolves around cartoon. The museum's permanent collection has about 6,000 pieces. This includes original animation cells, comic book pages and early newspaper comic strips.
The museum started in 1984, and moved to its current location in 2001. The museum hosts about 12 exhibitions yearly.
