This sign tells some of the rich history of coal mining in the area. Roslyn was once a bustling hub of the coal industry. Because of this, Roslyn was once one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the state. Nearby are many old cemeteries that testify to the danger inherent in the mining jobs. Each ethnic group had its own cemetery. A couple of blocks northeast of here is the coal miners' memorial.
