Jack Kerouac (March 12, 1922 - October 21, 1969) is considered to be among the most prominent of the "Beat Generation" writers and artisans. Most of his works are autobiographical. His most famous novel (required reading in many college programs) is "On The Road" (1957). Today many people still visit his grave, and it is common to see items left on his stone by his fans, of which there are many throughout the world.
Kerouac is buried in Edson Cemetery in Lowell, Massachusetts. His small, flush stone is inscribed with "He Honored Life".
