The Plymouth County Museum is an excellent example of a school being recycled into continued educational use. Formerly the Le Mars Central High School, this historic brick building now teaches the public about Le Mar’s past and their British heritage. Exhibits include an old time café, barber and beauty shops, schoolroom and blacksmith shop. A variety of antique instruments, a 1940’s car and airplane, and farming machinery also attract attention; religious heritage and memorabilia from the former Westmar College, newspapers and genealogy research records are also available. A Civil War era log cabin sits on the front lawn of the museum. It was built in 1865 using native oak and elm logs. O. L. Weber donated the cabin to the Plymouth County Museum in 1966.
