This post box has been placed here as part of the rebuilding of the Stalham station on this site at Holt. A genuine VR wall box would not have a crown on the door, nor would it be this wide.

The Poppy Line is the restored line running from Holt to Sheringham on the tracks of the old Midland and Great Northern system. The original Holt station was much closer to Holt and was a concrete structure following destruction of the original station buildings by fire in 1926. The track bed was used as the present day Holt bypass after the line was axed by Beeching. In 1982 work began on the reinstatement of the line from Weybourne towards Holt. The current site of the Poppy Line Holt Station is to the north of Cromer Road and it was seven years before the first trains ran into a brand new platform, now platform 2. The M&GN style waiting shelter was added in 1992.

In 2000 the Station building at Stalham became available from the County Council and a team spent the following winter dismantling it and transporting it to Holt. The new station was opened in time for the 2005 season. The attention to detail is clear right down to the Bakelite telephones and light fittings. It is therefore understandable that the post box is not in its original position, the give-away being the name on the box's posting information panel, Batchworth Heath and THREE collections a day!!! (Batchworth Heath is near Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire).
