Junction of the Dixie Hwy and the Dixie Hwy Cumberland Gap Loop(old 25E), which followed the Wilderness Road. The Wilderness Road was blazed by Daniel Boone, following an old buffalo road that crossed through the Cumberland Gap southeast of here.

Former alignment of the Dixie Highway Cumberland Gap Loop, 25E. The road mostly follows an old buffalo road used by Daniel Boone, known as the Wilderness Road. This route was very important to opening up Kentucky to early settlers. Native Americans also used this route to travel through the area. The loop runs through the Cumberland Gap, which became a destination to those traveling the Dixie Highway. A new allignment of 25E is located north of here.
Col. Sanders of KFC started his first restaurant and developed his famous recipe here. He started with a gasoline filling station at the point of the intersection here, and serviced traffic on the early Dixie Hwy. See nearby waymarks for additional details.
I guess one could say that this might have been the origins of Buffalo wings!
