Torre Vasco da Gama-Expo 98 - Permanent World Fair and Expo Structures on Waymarking.com

?It's located on the Parque das Nações, where the World Expo'98 took place. Until the works started, this part of the city was full of industries and some what forgotten. When it was awarded to Lisbon the Expo'98, everything took a great makeover. The result couldn't be better since the area is now one of the most pleasant of the city.

A torre Vasco da Gama é uma torre em estrutura mista de 142 m de altura no topo, construída junto ao rio Tejo, no Parque das Nações, em Lisboa, para a EXPO 98, a exposição mundial de 1998.

Foi projectada pela Profabril e SOM (Arquitectura Leonor Janeiro, Estruturas Nuno Costa) A construção no alto da torre durante a exposição era um restaurante de luxo com vista panorâmica sobre o rio Tejo e a cidade de Lisboa. O restaurante permaneceu aberto durante cerca de três anos após a exposição. A torre permanece encerrada ao público desde então.

É uma das mais altas construções de Portugal.

Em Agosto de 2008, iniciou-se junto da torre a construção de um hotel de cinco estrelas da cadeia Sana, prevendo-se que esteja pronto no fim de 2013.
