The bridge is a typical arched Lakeland stone bridge, made from rubble slate with slate walls added more recently.
The buildings here had a simple forge, powered by water, to work iron from furnaces elsewhere. The water would turn a wheel which drove a trip hammer to work the metal. The wheel also operated the bellows to heat the metal.
