Angelo's Drive In - Fresno, CA - U.S. Route 99 - The Pacific Highway on Waymarking.com

North of Downtown Fresno, after the highway takes you through Belmont Circle, US Route 99 skirted the east edge of Roeding Park. The road in this area is still known as Golden State (sometimes suffixed Boulevard, Street, or Highway - depending where you are), a common San Joaquin Valley name for the old road. Just off Golden State Boulevard is Angelo's Drive-In.

Angelo's opened in 1954 and remains in its original location. Unfortunately while it had a prime location just of the highway, the Division of Highways was already planning to build the new 99 Freeway half a mile to the west which was opened in 1958 and the old highway was relegated to Business Route status. The building retains its original signage, but I have not seen it lit up at night in a long time. My favorite sign is one in the window that offers inside service. A nice review is located here . I have eaten there a million times in the last 15 years - but it looks as though it is closed.
