Captain James Moore & Captain John Whiteside Grave

Captain James Moore was born in Maryland on February 14, 1750. He recieved his commission from Governor Patrick Henry of Virginia and served under Colonel George Rogers Clark. He returned to Illinois in 1781 leading a group settling in at Bellefontaine area in what is the current town of Waterloo. He died in summer of 1788 on his farm in Bellefontaine.

Captain John Whiteside was born in Albemarle County, Virginia on April 13, 1746/7. He served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. He settled in the Whiteside Station IL, an area between present day Waterloo and Columbia IL. He died in 1817.

To get to this cemetery park at Bellefontaine and walk along the old road to the south about 1/4 of a mile. The cemetery is surrounded by a high chainlink fence with a locked gate. The graves are visible from outside the fence.
