Located at the site of an old mine tour. When the tour is available (spring to fall) this marker is not a quick stop. I recommend the tour.

From the marker:

You have entered the crater of an ancient volcano rich in minerals. The waste dumps are remains of the famous Rossland mines staked in 1890 by prospectors passing on the near-by Dewdney Trail. From these fabulously rich workings came 6,000,000 tons of ore worth $125,000,000. The City of Rossland and the huge smelter at Trail were born of these mines.

Type of Marker: Geographical / Natural History

Type of Sign: British Columbia Tourism Sign

Describe the parking that is available nearby: Large parking lot within metres of marker.

What Agency placed the marker?: Department of Recreation and Conservation
