The West tower of St Mary’s Church has a clock on the South face. Above the clock is the motto TIME FLIES, whilst below the clock is the motto MIND YOUR BUSINESS.
The motto appears to derive from the American coin, the Fugio Cent. The Fugio Cent was authorised in 1787 by the Continental Congress of the United States. The design of the coin, some believe by Benjamin Franklyn, had FUGIO (I fly) above and MIND YOUR BUSINESS below an image of the sun shining down on a sundial.
