Standing tall amongst the greenery in the Public Garden is George Washington, surveying the greenway down the center of Commonwealth Avenue. This statue, originally commissioned to be done by Thomas Crawford, was designed over the period from 1860 to 1864, before being cast at the Ames Factory in Chicopee, MA, and eventually being placed in its current location.
