The simple stone reads:

'Commemorating the Malayan Volunteers both military and civilian who served in W.W.II 1941-1945.'

The memorial was placed by the Malayan Volunteers Group who are made up of Veterans but mostly the children of the Malayan Volunteer Force. The group was formed in 2005. It is a little known fact that many of the FEPOWs were civilians and volunteers; they had valuable skills that could be shared in prison camps. Amongst these were medical, practical and local language skills and also secret radios. Some taught at the Changi University formed within the Changi prison camp by prisoners.

There were approximately 18,000 volunteers who gave so much during the war and they were part of the Malayan Volunteer Forces, Medical Auxiliary Service and Observer Corps.

Two crests appear on the memorial, one for the Malayan Volunteers Group and one for the Singapore Volunteer Corps. It sits at ground level between two dedicated benches. Around this area are associated dedicated trees.
