The Shawmut was a low end hotel in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. The hotel probably dates back to the 1920s. In 2007 the hotel's named changed to Coast Hotel. The Shawmut was named before when it was built the rooms had private bath, a luxury in the 1900s. Shawmut is a Native American word that's been translated to spring. More information: (
