It's described by the Smithsonian Inventory as: "A rotund King, dressed in royal robes and wearing a crown. He sits with both knees raised toward his chest. His proper left hand rests on his proper left knee, while a knife is held in his proper right hand which rests on his proper right knee. Both hands are balancing a pie that is positioned between his knees. The figure's head is tilted back. The "four" and "twenty" blackbirds are perched and in flight around the King whose bare feet are being splashed by the water from the fountain.

The sculpture was originally stored at the Wentworth home and was moved to its present location in 1992."

The verse from the rhyme:

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?
