A two-story American System Built (ASB) house in the Ridge Historic District of Chicago. This house is just down the street from the Guy C. Smith Model Home and makes a nice twofer.

The American Systems Built houses are one of several efforts over Frank Lloyd Wright's extended career to produce architecturally significant houses at "affordable" prices. However, Wright's audience was hardly the lower income and the houses could be built for $6-8,000 not including the land. This is one of two ASB homes originally known as Ridge Homes in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago. According to O' Gorman, they were originally constructed for a larger community of similar homes planned for access to the nearby golf course at Ridge Country Club.

According to Heinz, Hyde was a cashier for the International Harvester Company owned by the McCormick family. This house was ordered directly form the ASB catalog in early 1917. The building permit was pulled by the contractor P.D. Diamond on May 16, 1917.

The Hyde house definitely has more curb appeal than the nearby Guy C. Smith house.

This is a private residence.
