The church congregation first formed in 1873 and the first church was built in 1879. This was followed by a school and the parsonage. The current sanctuary was built in 1901 with an addition built in 1967.
The adjoining cemetery has about 230 graves and the earliest recorded burial is 1885.
The name is taken from nearby Decker Creek. This area was mainly settled by Swedish immigrants.
