The Oswegoland Park District's Saw Wee Kee Park was once a strip mine. The spoil piles are now part of the trail system. Approximately 7 miles of narrow trails meander throughout the 130-acre park.

No fees or permits or licenses are required to ride in this park. Picnic and bathroom amenities are spartan at best, so prepare accordingly.

If you plan a more leisurely pace, a camera is highly recommended. You may come across some wildlife or find an excellent view.

CAUTION: These trails are not for the exclusive use of mountain bikes. These trails are also used by hikers, geocachers, orienteers and equestrians. Each will try to yield to the other as appropriate to their ability and location on the trail - bearing in mind horses are always first.

Trail Name: Saw Wee Kee Park (various named segments and loops) Short description of trail: The sandy trails, although packed tight, do occasionally slip. The undulating hills keep your mind and body occupied - along with sharp twists and turns for good measure. The mature trees and lakes in the former pits provide a wonderful visual interest while you are traveling. Each segment has its own difficulty level so pace yourself accordingly. Speed is not the name of the game here. Too much speed will send you into one of the many lakes or into a tree since most trails are very narrow.
