In Dedham, along the Providence Highway, are a series of survey markers installed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The markers also have witness posts beside them, as well as similar posts that declare an easement boundary line.

To reach the markers, there is a parking lot at the gate house for the Charles River outlet into Mother Brook, which is accessible by driving south on the Providence Highway. There is an opportunity to turn south by turning right into the entrance to Dedham Mall by Uno's Pizza, then turning around and turning left at the lights. The entrance is about 500 feet south of the traffic lights.

The marker is a cast metal disk set on a rod hammered into the ground. The mark stands about three inches high off the ground and has a witness post inches away, and is about 5 feet from a guard rail. The disk is about 200 feet south of the traffic lights. On the disk are the words. "Corps. of Engineers - U.S. Army" and the usual "Do Not Disturb" warning, in addition to "Survey Mark". In the center is a cross, then the hand-embossed characters, "CR-14-21".

This survey marker was the first of four found while observing the water levels at the Charles River and the outlet into Mother Brook. Over 9.5 inches of rain in one storm alone was dumped in the area and, thus, some of the highest water levels were recorded in the watershed.

The U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers keeps a watch on the flood waters of the Charles River. In addition to the dam at the basin in Boston, the USACE also has responsibility for many wetlands from Boston to Medway that serve to naturally retain water and release it slowly into the river. This easement is likely part of that management.
Type of survey mark: Easement Boundary
