This sculpture is comprised of two separate figures, depicting a farmer and his wife, working side by side in a field. The woman is sowing seed and the man is using a scythe to cut wheat. Together, they capture the fundamental tasks involved in farming, and underscore the combined labor that helped build Schaumburg.
Plaque reads:
For more than 100 years, Schaumburg was a crossroads community, surrounded by farms, nestled at the intersection of Schaumburg and Roselle Roads. For all that time the business of Schaumburg was agriculture, and early settlers worked the land, sowing seeds and harvesting crops. This sculpture, constructed of cast bronze, depicts one such pioneer couple. Today they serve as a reminder of the Village’s agrarian past, where the rhythms of planting and reaping were the measure of everyday life, and where their dream of a better tomorrow became the Schaumburg that you see today.
