A set of two tunnel, one abandoned, and one active on the former Pennsylvania Railroad mainline. It is now the mainline for Norfolk Southern, with most of the activity on the weekdays, but there is still enough service to warrant a week-end visit.

The Gallitzin Tunnels is one of the highest and longest tunnels in Pennsylvania. The Gallitzin Tunnels are so important to Pennsylvania that in times of war they have been guarded by American troops. The first tunnel was opened in 1851 and is known as the Portage Tunnel. The second tunnel was opened in February 15, 1854 is 3,612 ft long at an elevation of 2,167 ft and is known as the Allegheny Tunnel. The third tunnel was begun in 1902 and opened in 1904 and is known as the Gallitzin Tunnel.
Today the area is recognized as one of the premier railfan viewing locations in America. The site includes the Gallitzin Tunnels Park & Museum.
