The state of Michigan Historic Preservation website at (visit link) tells us:

"The Orrin and Ann Thayer White House is a two-story, L-shaped house composed of a side-gable rectangular portion and a rear ell. The frame house features an entrance facade with herringbone-patterned cobblestones, laid randomly on the sides and rear facades. Pierced trusswork decorates the gable-ends and stone quoins support the corners of the structure.

The Orrin White House is one of the finest examples of rare cobblestone architecture in the Ann Arbor area. Constructed between 1836 and 1840, the house features cobblestone patterns typical in New York, the home of its builder, at the time of its construction. Farmer and local civic leader Orrin White built this house with his wife Ann by hand and finished the structure in several stages. The home is currently in excellent condition and remains a private residence."
