This milestone marks the end (or the beginning, depending on which direction you were traveling) of the Old Spanish Trail (auto trail), which began in St. Augustine, Florida.

The Old Spanish Trail spanned the nation from St. Augustine,Florida to San Diego, California. Work began on the highway in 1915. This milestone is located in front of San Diego's downtown Horton Plaza shopping mall. Centennial observances are being planned.

The milestone indicates:
"PACIFIC MILESTONE
DEDICATED BY
OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT
CALVIN COOLIDGE
NOV. 17, 1923"
On another side it indicates:
"OLD SPANISH TRAIL
ST. AUGUSTINE
FLORIDA
TO
SAN DIEGO
CALIF."
A third side again repeats that it is the Pacific Milestone,
and the fourth side has a plaque which reads:
"THE CITIZENS OF SAN DIEGO
IN DEDICATING THIS PACIFIC MILESTONE
NOVEMBER 17, 1923
HEREIN
GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE
THE UNERRING EFFORTS OF
