This bust of Verdi was originally sculpted in marble by Ross C. Adams and Carlo Nicoli and was dedicated in 1886. The marble bust has been replaced with a resin based replacement due to deterioration of the original.
Verdi was an Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera and is recognized most influential composers of Italian opera in the 19th century. His works of opera include Nabucco in 1842, I Lombardi in 1843, Macbeth in 1847 and what is viewed by many as his masterpiece Rigoletto in 1851.
