Hamblen County, named in honor of Hezekiah Hamblen (see TN Historical Marker Waymark WM68Q3), was formed from parts of Jefferson and Hawkins counties. The courthouse was built in 1874 at a cost of $21,750 (roughly $5 million in current dollars).
