From the inventory: "Two bronze bears. Each is the mirror image of the other. They lay on their sides, reclining. Their heads are raised, each looking off to the side. The bears recline on concrete bases which are positioned next to each other.
The bears were originally commissioned by the Rossia Insurance Company of Petrograd, Russia and were located at the entrance to the company's American headquarters in Hartford, CT. When the headquarters building was scheduled for demolition, the bears were obtained by A. John Macchi, president of Macchi Engineers in Hartford, and a graduate of the university. They were donated to the university by Macchi in 1987. The bears were sculpted using the "repousse" technique and are hollow."
