Left here into ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY (open daily, sunrise to sunset), entered between white pylons and iron gates. This largest of the National burial grounds contains the graves of more than 44,000 men and women of the service. Its 400 landscaped acres overlook the Potomac.
Over 300,000 people are now buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Some of the more notable burials include President John F. Kennedy, President William Taft, Senators Robert Kennedy and Edward Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Chief Justices Earl Warren, Warren Burger, and William Rehnquist, Glenn Miller, and Abner Doubleday, among many others. Also not to be missed is the very moving and emotional Tomb of the Unknowns. There are so many sites to see within the cemetery, one could easily spend an entire day walking around. Several military burials occur everyday throughout the cemetery.
Admission to the cemetery is free. Driving is not permitted inside the cemetery, unless a relative is buried within. A paid hourly parking lot ($1.75/hour) is located outside the visitor's center. The Tourmobile offers guided tours of many of the popular sites within the cemetery for a fee.
