Located in northern Brookings County, South Dakota, White has a population of 512, as of July 2008. This reflects a decrease in population of about 3.4% from the 2000 census.

The town was incorporated on August 20, 1887, and is made up of German, Norwegian, Irish, Dutch, and Danish ancestries.

The town of White is small enough not to be able to support a full-blown school system. A number of years ago it combined with Astoria and Toronto to form Deubrook Area Schools. Preschool students are sent to Astoria, elementary students go to Toronto, and high school students are bussed to White.

Churches in town in include: St. Paul Catholic Church, Zion Lutheran Church, Pioneer Lutheran Church, First Baptist Church, and United Presbyterian Church.
