The Mt Gambier radar is located at the Meteorological Office, 9 km north of the city of Mt Gambier. The elevation of the radar antenna is 84 metres above sea level. The radar has good coverage in most directions up to a range of about 200 km.
The radar is easily visible from both the airport and Riddoch Highway.
There is no signage at the entrance to the Meteorological Station advising of restricted entry, so I drive right up to the radar and a meteorologist appeared almost immediately. Once I explained I just wanted to photograph the radar, she went bach indoors with concerns abated.
