SOme of the trails in Jester Park are open to horses. Some are for pedestrians/hiking only. Before this Eagle Scout Project, One would hear of horse/hiker accidents 3 or 4 times a year. I never heard that anyone was ever seriously hurt in one of these accidents - mostly scrapes & bruises. This enterprising Scout figured it was just a matter of time till a serious injury occured unless something was done. So the Scout worked with the Polk County Conservation Board (managers of the park), the park ranger & his troop to post signs throughout the park on the trails where horses are allowed. This information was obtained by talking to the Park Ranger & the Manager at the Jester Park Equestrian Center.
