Marquette MI "South Shore Depot" train station

"The Marquette Medical Arts offices at 107 W. Main St, in downtown Marquette, is, in addition to Marquette's "newest" state-of-the-art Medical facililty, is also one of Marquette's most prestigiously historic buildings. Originally the home of Marquette's "South Shore Depot" train station, it opened for business on January 11, 1902 and remained in service until 1945. The building was initially hailed by The Mining Journal as "strictly modern and metropolitan," with steam heat, electric lights, Port Washington sandstone exterior, a slate roof, and eight-foot awnings on all sides. The second floor featured Georgia pine paneling and hardwood floors and served as rooms for railroad employees and other passengers requiring overnight accommodations.

Many famous people passed through the station, most notably among them President Teddy Roosevelt, who conducted a speech before an audience of 6,000 from a station platform during the 1912 Presidential Campaign.

Since 1945, the depot building has served many local businesses, and in 1997 its interior was completely modernized and restored, with air-conditioning and a new elevator, for the exclusive purpose of serving downtown and Greater Marquette's primary care medical needs.

In addition to serving as the new home of Women's Health Associates, the building also features the Family Practice offices of Drs. Mark Stevens and Daniel Hardie, and a laboratory of Marquette General Hospital, for the convenience of our patients." (visit link)
