This shelter is a popular destination for NB section/thru hikes. Officially a five person platform, it slept seven, but could have squeeze in another in a pinch. Since 2009, the broken picnic table has been repaired, but could use some more shims to level. Bear cables, privy, and water source (piped spring water) are all nearby. Plenty of tent camping spots to south.

Allen Gap is five miles to the south which is down a steep ridge (or up, up, up if northbound - 2-3 hours with about a 2000 foot elevation gain). Or two and half miles north to Camp Creek Bald up on Viking Mountain, which is car accessible, but not a normal take-out point.
