Since 2006 Banner Elk Winery has been producing wines from locally grown grapes. The winery is set on a 25-year-old blueberry farm. The drive up the winding mountain road is a treat in itself. The idyllic rural mountain settings are beautiful. The view from the winery is breath taking. There is a small trout pond in front and a cozy porch complete with rocking chairs and café tables. It is truly a peaceful setting

The winery often hosts outdoor musical events in the natural outdoor theater setting. In addition, there are Bed and Breakfast villas on the property for those who wish to visit for a while.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The owner, Dr. Richard Wolfe, treats them like family and this comes through when they discuss the wines. We got to meet Dr. Wolfe during our visit. During the winery tour, the staff even let me label and seal my own bottle of blueberry wine (check out the photo).

The wines are light, crisp, but complex in taste. They are oak aged, hand bottled, sealed, and labeled. From the numerous awards, Banner Elk has proven that the North Carolina Mountains can produce excellent grapes for wine making.
