This chimney is right along a trail in Powdermills Park, in Pittsford, NY. A small basement is still here as well, but I wouldn't recommend crawling down into it.
The park had been used in the late 1800's for manufacturing of blasting powder. There were various homes and cabins built in this park to house the owner of the blasting powder company, and the workers and their families.
Over time there were numerous explosions, and eventually the land was sold to Monroe County.
I like to think that the chimney here is all that remains from one of those explosions, but I have nothing to back up that theory for sure!
