This painted hydrant stands guard right outside the main gate to Old Fort Niagara.
This hydrant, along with several others throughout town, is painted to represent an American soldier from the War of 1812. There are others painted as British Army "redcoats" and as Native Americans, who in fact helped both sides in the War of 1812.
This hydrant was sponsored by Harold and Karen Noonan and painted by D J Gioia. These names are signed on the back side of the hydrant.
