My internet research has shown that there was a Colonel Bridge's Massachusetts Regiment started on May 13, 1775 and disbanded October 22, 1775. I can find no mention of John Brooks specifically.

According to the plaque next to the gravestone, John Brooks was also a veteran of the War of 1812.
