There was a time when the local jewelry store in most towns would display a freestanding clock outside of the business. Since jewelers were also watch sellers and did watch repairs, this made sense. It was good advertising and a public service. Folks needed a public timepiece to set their own watches by.
This clock appears to be at least 60 years old by style. It looks as if it once had a neon display under the clock. There are holes in that portion of the sign.
Clarksville is a town of about 1300 people and this is the only public clock I saw in town.
