Dr. Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the worlds first woman dentist had her office in one of the bedrooms of The American House Steamboat Landing Suite during the Civil War. From McGregor she and her new husband moved to Lawrence Kansas and taught in the dental school there and became active in the Republican Party in an effort to get women's sufferage."
