Cahokia Mounds - Collinsville IL - New World Ancient Evidence on Waymarking.com

Cahokia Mounds located in Collinsville IL is the site of many mounds built by the Missippians somewhere between 800 CE to 1500 CE. The coordinates are for the largest mound - Monks Mound - "The largest mound at the Cahokia site, the largest man-made earthen mound in the North American continent, is Monks Mound (Mound 38). It received its name from the group of Trappist Monks who lived on one of the nearby mounds. The Monks never lived on the biggest mound but gardened its first terrace and nearby areas." source (visit link)

There is an Interapative Center across the street that offers a lot of displays and information on the Mounds. Note the terrain rating is based on the number of steps that must be climbed to reach the top of the mound. It could be challenging for some.
