Every year Taupo holds a Xmas decorated House and Garden Lights competition around the suburban streets of the lakeside town.

In the lakeside town of Taupo everyone drives around the streets during the weeks just before Xmas, stopping to admire the houses and gardens decked out in Christmas lights. The displays are visible from the roadside outside the properties. There is always an excellent display in Taupo View Road where several neighbours have competed together to provide a giant display of Christmas lights.
The competition usually runs for a couple of weeks before Xmas. Best viewed after 9pm as it doesn't get really dark enough until about 10pm due to our NZ daylight saving.
