This log jail was the first in Washington County Georgia and was built in about 1793.
The most interesting fact about this jail is that it was home to the infamous Aaron Burr for one night as he was being transported to Washington D.C. to stand trial for treason in 1807.
Made of hand-hewn logs, the jail has been restored and is considered the OLDEST log jail in Georgia. The entire village of Warthen, including the jail, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
