Located at 145 West Broad Street, historic New St. Mary's Episcopal Church has a fallout shelter. The sign is located to the left of the main entrance on West Broad Street.

The capacity was listed on this sign at one time...there is a piece of tape or plastic plastered over the number showing the capacity. Guess whoever is in church praying at the time of the call, will fit. Imagine that, go to church to save your soul...and your mortal life in wartime.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church was built here in 1702, on land purchased for a cemetery in 1695. By the mid-1800's, the original St Mary's became too small for the congregation. The New St. Mary's Episcopal Church, completed in 1854, was built across the churchyard from the Old St. Mary's Church and was added to the National register of Historic Places on May 31, 1972, and declared a National Historic Landmark on June 24, 1986.
