“THIS MEMORIAL HONORS THE INTEGRITY AND SELFLESSNESS OF ALL WHO SERVE MANKIND BY ACCURATE AND DISPASSIONATE APPRAISAL OF WORLD EVENTS IN PEACE OR WAR; IT IS DEDICATED TO THE PERPETUAL MEMORY OF THOSE WHOSE COURAGEOUS ADHERENCE TO AN IDEAL IN THE BATTLE ZONES OF WORLD WAR II MADE A FINAL HEADLINE AT THE COST OF THEIR OWN LIVES.”
