The swan is the bird of Buckingham and appears on the local flag. It really catches the light in its prime position and is often the main thing you notice when driving through the town centre.
The town hall was rebuilt in the 18th century after a devastating fire spread through the town.
The swan was a badge of the ancient family of De Bohn, and of the Giffards who were Earls of Buckingham, and then of the Staffords, the first Dukes of Buckingham.
