Solvay is a suburb of the City of Syracuse and is located north and west of the downtown area. Solvay has an estimated population of 6,800 people. It was named after the Solvay Brothers, a chemical processing company that had its beginnings in the area processing soda ash. The plant closed in 1985, however, the area maintained stability, despite the loss of this once busy factory.
