VFW Post 9789 started out probably like many other posts, just a couple of veterans that just happened to get together and started talking. The group started to grow over until they discovered they should make it official.
VFW Post 9789 was established in 1985 and started in the local fire hall until enough funds were established to take out a mortgage for the current facility.
Shortly after establishing this permanent post, one of the gentlemen that frequented the post on an almost daily basis for a beer and local gossip passed away. Unknown to the rest of the members, he stipulated in his will that the mortgage of the post would be paid.
In tribute to his generosity, the post was dedicated to R.L. "Hab" Nims a naval veteran of World War II.
