S.T.A.R.S. stands for Syracuse Thunderbirds Aero Radio Society. The Society, incorporated in 1979, currently has over 60 members and utilizes more than 42 acres of well maintained grass runways. They are located about 3 miles east of Pheonix, N.Y..

Their membership consists of modelers with varying degrees of experience and interest. There are some that have many years of experience in the hobby, while others are just starting out in the hobby of model building and aviation. During the warmer seasons,
any number or combination of radio controlled aircraft, from WW-I and WW-II aircraft, gliders and helicopters, may be flying at the field.
Each year, the club puts on several local events, such as:
an auction, model aircraft forums, annual snow-fly and starting in 2009, a "Heli-Jam" event. They also have a flight school for both fixed wing and helicopters.
