"TWIN TOWERS occupy a platform at the cliff rim and are seperated from the main body of hte mesa by a deep cleft. The foundation of the larger tower is oval, that of the smaller, horseshoe-shaped; the walls of both are in fair state of preservation."
--- Utah: A Guide to The State, 1941
Hovenweep National Monument is actually a collection of ancestral ruin sites scattered in the southeast Utah and southwest Colorado region. The Square Tower Group, here in Ruins Canyon is one of the best preserved and populated.
The Twin Towers structure was remarkable in the fact that is truly was part of a much larger structure. The way the towers are laid almost resembles the foundations of the base of a modern day suspension bridge. From the towers situation on the cliff's edge, the stronghold is directly cross canyon. Piles of construction rubble lay at the bottom of the canyon between the two structures. Is it possible that the Towers also was the base of a cross canyon bridge?
