There is a debate among long-distance hikers whether it is worth the weight to carry a cell phone (and charger) or just prepaid phone cards. This payphone at a well-used hostel along the AT is probably very busy during late April to early May as the wave of northbound thru-hikers (starting in Georgia) reach Erwin, TN.
